Salish Sea

Introduction

The Salish Sea is where the Coast Salish people traveled all along the British Columbia West Coast waters,
as well as the American waters from Lummi-Washington, Seattle-Washington, Port Angeles-Washington, Neah Bay-Washington
right down to the California Coastline on different size traditional Coast Salish canoes. Using the marine waters, rivers
and streams as we would recognize today as a main highway. Along our travels year round we would harvest animals, mammals,
plants and trees. The Western Red cedar is highly valued for canoe making and carving, other trees were the Large Leaf Maple and
Yellow Cedar, the Coast Salish people valued all of the surrounding natural resources from the sea and land, stopping at stationary
and seasonal camps.
